Official Approved Replica made in conjunction with the man himself Brett Nicol

CERBERUS Nicol Walking Stone Handles are the official replicas of the ring handles and pick-up heights of the real Nicol Walking Stones. They are not just standard circular shapes they have been made as close as possible to the two different handle shapes on the real stones. They will allow you to build up both your strength and pain tolerance. You will also be able to practice and improve your finger and hand placement as well as grip technique. Because these come with specifically designed loading pins you also get the correct pick up. You can improve your lift and perfect your technique! Our handles will get you ready for this epic challenge and let you train like the pros!

History

These modern day Scottish strength testing stones were created by legendary Dinnie Stone lifter Brett Nicol. NO-ONE has lifted the Dinnie Stones as many times as Brett! He has currently lifted them a total of 499 times (correct as of 07/08/2023). Brett originally made these stones for his own training to replicate the side-by-side carrying style when walking with the Dinnie Stones. Over the years the Nicol Stones grew in reputation among Scottish stonelifters and soon inevitably made their way into competition. They first publicly appeared in the IHGF Stones of Strength National Final in 2019 where Luke Stoltman carried them 63’ 3” (19.3m). This gave these stones the exposure they deserved and the event captured the hearts and minds of the public. Due to the combination of strength, grit and determination required to carry the stones they soon became a fan favourite. This propelled them into the highest levels of competition being featured at many Giants Live events including Europe’s Strongest Man, the World Tour Finals, Scotland’s Strongest Man and more. They have their own Guinness World Record and have become a legendary test of strength in their own right!

The Challenge

The test of strength with these stones is not just to pick them up which is a feat of strength in itself, but to walk with them for distance. The heavier stone weighs 138kg (304lbs), and the lighter stone weighs 114kg (251lbs) for a total of 252kg (555.5lbs). They are very humbling to try and even the strongest men and women in the world find them a challenge. This is due in part because of the thin steel handles that feel VERY different from the bar and will cause a lot of pain. Also the stones are not perfectly balanced like farmers walk or a frame carry and also bash and bang your legs causing them to swing about every step.

The Rules

  • Athletes must carry the stones as far as possible along the 20 meter course.
  • Athletes are allowed a single drop along with a 10 second break, after which they must continue to carry the stones.
  • Once the athlete drops the stones a second time, their attempt is over and the distance is measured.
  • If an athlete manages to reach the end of the 20m course, they must turn around and continue the walk back down the course.
  • If the athlete reaches the end of the 20m course before their first drop, they are allowed to drop the stones and pick them up in the opposite direction instead of turning with the stones in hand. This is treated as their single allowed drop.
  • If the athlete reaches the end of the 20m course after taking their allowed drop they must continue to carry the stones whilst turning back.
  • After the athlete’s second (and final) drop, the distance is measured from the starting line to the front of the farthest stone.
